The British Veterinary Camelid Society was established in 1994, in response to the growing interest in camelids, and particularly new world camelids, in the UK. The original group of 12 enthusiasts met at the Bristol University Veterinary School in Langford, coming from as far afield as Aberdeen.
At that initial meeting it was generally agreed that for the foreseeable future it was impractical to establish a formal society with a fixed constitution and affiliation to the BVA. Instead, the policy was to arrange an annual meeting at which veterinary surgeons could exchange views.
The BVCS works closely with owners of camelids, particularly through the British Alpaca Society and the British Camelids Association.
Membership of BVCS is open to all vets, students and researchers with an interest in camelids: there is a very modest fee to cover administrative costs. Click on the buttons below to download a membership form and a standing order mandate.
